Before First Use & Care

Before first use

  1. Rinse the pot with clean water.
  2. Fill it to about 70% with fresh tap or spring water and bring it to the boil on an electric hob over a gentle heat. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes, then pour the water away.
  3. Repeat two or three times, and it’s ready.

Everyday care

  • Never leave water in the pot overnight. Empty it after each use.
  • Take off the lid and let the warmth of the iron dry the inside. You can also leave it on a switched-off electric hob to use the remaining heat.
  • Wipe the rim, the lid and the spout with a tea towel so no water is left behind.
  • Rinse with warm water only, without detergent. Not dishwasher safe.

Precautions

  • Suitable for electric hobs over a gentle heat. Not for gas or any open flame.
  • When heating water, fill to about 70% so it doesn’t bubble over, and take the infuser out first.
  • Never heat the pot empty, and never cool a hot pot quickly with cold water.
  • The body, lid and handle get hot: use a cloth to lift the pot and the lid.

If rust appears

Iron can show a little rust if water is left in it. It’s normal and simple to treat: boil fresh water in the pot two or three times as described above, then dry it well.

Why plum blossom?

The motif

Why plum blossom?

Plum blossom opens at the very end of winter, often before the snow has gone. In Japanese art it has long stood for quiet resilience and the first promise of spring.

A small reminder, every time you pour, to slow down and notice.

Worried about rust?

Easy care

Worried about rust?

Iron simply asks not to be left wet. Empty it after each pot, lift the lid and let the warmth dry it. That’s all.

If a spot ever appears, boiling fresh water in it a few times takes care of it. And if anything isn’t right when it arrives, we’ll put it right.

  • Keeps tea warm

Cast iron holds its heat, so the second cup pours almost as warm as the first.

  • Infuser included

Every size comes with its own infuser, so loose leaves lift straight out.

  • Cups to match

Two matching 60 ml cups are available as an optional set.

Before you buy

Good questions.

Anything else? Write to us, we’re happy to help.

Can it go on the hob?

Yes, on an electric hob over a gentle heat, to heat water. Fill it to about 70% so it doesn’t bubble over, take the infuser out first, and never heat it empty. It isn’t suitable for gas or any open flame.

Are cups included?

No, the teapot comes on its own, with its infuser. If you’d like cups, you can add the matching set of two just below the basket button.

Which teas is it best for?

It’s lovely with black, oolong and roasted teas, which like to stay hot. For green and white teas, let the water cool a little before pouring. Our brewing guide has the temperatures and times.

Which size should I choose?

300 ml for one. 600 ml for two. 800 ml for sharing a pot with friends. The full measurements are under Details & Specifications above.

Does the handle get hot?

The cord wrap makes it more comfortable to hold, but cast iron warms up once the pot is full. Keep a cloth or tea towel to hand to lift the pot and the lid.

Will my teapot look exactly like the photos?

Very close. Cast iron is poured into a mould, so small differences in texture, finish and in the painted blossoms from one pot to the next are normal, and aren’t a defect. Colours can also look slightly different from one screen to another.

What if I change my mind?

You can return it within 30 days of delivery. See our returns and refunds policy for how it works.
