How to Use & Care

Before first use

  • Soak the bamboo whisk in warm water for a few minutes, so the tines soften.
  • Wash the bowl, whisk holder and sieve in warm, soapy water, then rinse well.

Making matcha

  1. Warm the bowl with a little hot water, then pour it away and dry it.
  2. Sift one or two scoops of matcha into the bowl, to break up any lumps.
  3. Pour in a little water at around 80°C.
  4. Whisk briskly in a zigzag, from the wrist, until a soft foam forms. Pour into a cup using the lip, or drink straight from the bowl.

Cleaning

  • Rinse the whisk in warm water straight after use, without soap.
  • Let it dry upright on its holder, away from direct heat.
  • Wash the bowl, holder and sieve by hand. Wipe the scoop and spoon with a dry cloth.

Precautions

  • Not suitable for the dishwasher or the microwave.
  • Don’t leave the bamboo tools to soak for long.
  • Ceramic can break if dropped: handle it with care.

Never made matcha before?

The ritual

Never made matcha before?

It takes a few minutes. Sift a scoop of matcha into the bowl, pour a little hot water and whisk in a quick zigzag until a soft green foam rises.

No machine, no rush: just the sound of the whisk, and a bowl held in both hands.

What’s in the set?

Six pieces in a kraft gift box: a ceramic bowl with a pouring lip, a ceramic whisk holder, a bamboo whisk in a clear case, a bamboo scoop, a bamboo spoon and a stainless steel sieve.

Is matcha included?

No, the set comes without tea, so you can choose the matcha you like.

How do I make matcha?

Warm the bowl and dry it. Sift one or two scoops of matcha into it, pour in a little water at around 80°C, then whisk briskly in a zigzag until a soft foam forms. The full steps are under How to Use & Care above.

Why a sieve?

Matcha is a very fine powder that tends to clump. Sifting it into the bowl breaks up the lumps, so it whisks into a smooth, even foam.

How do I look after the whisk?

Before first use, soak it in warm water for a few minutes. After each use, rinse it in warm water without soap and let it dry upright on its holder, away from direct heat. Don’t leave it to soak for long.

Will it look exactly like the photos?

Very close. Each glaze can vary slightly from one set to the next, and screens also show colours differently.

Is it a good gift?

A lovely one for a matcha lover, or for someone who’s always wanted to try. Delivery takes 7–14 days in total, Monday to Friday (2–4 days processing, then 5–10 days shipping, both Monday to Friday), so order a little ahead for a birthday.

What if it arrives broken, or I change my mind?

If anything arrives damaged, send us a photo and we’ll send a replacement or refund you in full. You can also return it within 30 days of delivery: see our returns and refunds policy.
