Cast iron is poured into a mould, so small marks and slight differences in finish from one pot to the next are normal.

Before First Use & Care

Before first use

Seasoning the iron with tea helps protect it and softens the first brews.

  1. Fill the pot just under halfway with water and add about 8 g of tea leaves.
  2. Simmer gently for 5 minutes, then pour it away.
  3. Repeat three times, and it’s ready.

Cleaning

  • Rinse with warm water only, without detergent.
  • Don’t scrub or wipe the inside with a sponge or cloth.
  • Not dishwasher safe.

Everyday care

  • After each use, empty the pot, take off the lid and let the warmth of the iron dry the inside.
  • If you won’t use it for a while, make sure it’s completely dry and store it somewhere dry.

Precautions

  • For everyday tea, heat your water in a kettle and pour it in. Use a gentle hob only when seasoning, with water inside.
  • Never heat the pot empty, and never cool a hot pot quickly with cold water: sudden changes can crack cast iron.
  • The body and handle warm up once filled, so pour with a cloth to hand.

If rust appears

Uncoated cast iron can show a little rust over time. It’s normal, and simple to treat: season the pot again as above, two or three times (simmer for 5 to 10 minutes, never letting it boil dry), then boil fresh water in it once or twice before brewing.

Worried about rust?

Easy care

Worried about rust?

Like a good cast iron pan, it asks for a little care and rewards you for it. Season it with tea before first use, then let it dry with the lid off after each pot. That’s all.

If a spot of rust ever appears, it’s easily treated, and if anything isn’t right when it arrives, we’ll put it right.

Isn’t a mug enough?

The ritual

Isn’t a mug enough?

A mug makes tea in a hurry. A pot asks for four minutes, and gives them back to you: time to sit down, pour slowly and actually taste it.

Cast iron holds its heat, so the second cup is waiting for you, still warm.

  • Keeps tea warm

Cast iron holds its heat, so the second and third cups pour almost as warm as the first.

  • Infuser included

Fine stainless steel mesh that gives loose leaves room to open, then lifts straight out.

  • Traditional cast iron

Uncoated inside and seasoned with tea, the way iron teapots have been cared for over generations.

Before you buy

Good questions.

Anything else? Write to us, we’re happy to help.

Will it rust?

It can, and that’s normal. The inside is uncoated cast iron, as in traditional ironware, so a little rust over time doesn’t mean the pot is faulty.

To prevent it, season the pot before first use and, after each brew, empty it and let it dry with the lid off. If a spot appears, simmer water with a few tea leaves in the pot two or three times, as described under Before First Use & Care above. If anything isn’t right when your teapot arrives, get in touch and we’ll put it right.

Can it go on the hob?

For everyday tea, heat your water in a kettle and pour it in. The pot can sit on a gentle hob with water inside when you season it, but never heat it empty, keep the cord handle away from flames, and let it cool down on its own.

Does the handle get hot?

The cord wrap makes it more comfortable to hold, but cast iron warms up once the pot is full. Keep a cloth or tea towel to hand when you pour.

Which teas is it best for?

It is lovely with oolong, black and roasted teas, which like to stay hot. For green and white teas, let the kettle cool a little first. Our brewing guide has the temperatures and times.

Will my teapot look exactly like the photos?

Very close. Cast iron is poured into a mould, so small differences in texture, finish and depth of colour from one pot to the next are normal, and aren’t a defect. Colours can also look slightly different from one screen to another.

Can it go in the dishwasher?

No. Rinse it with warm water, without detergent, then let the warmth of the pot dry it with the lid off. Don’t scrub the inside.

What if I change my mind?

You can return it within 30 days of delivery. See our returns and refunds policy for how it works.
